Se examina la interpretación realizada por el pensador ruso del capítulo iv de la Fenomenología del espíritu y la importancia de la "dialéctica del amo y del esclavo" como clave del pensamiento hegeliano; así como la forma en que las premisas ontológicas expuestas en El ser (...) y la nada se presentan como elementos constitutivos de la comprensión de la intersubjetividad como dialéctica subjetivación-objetivación. ABSTRACT The article discusses the logic according to which the correlate of freedom, as radical negativity, is conflict, as the original dimension of intersubjectivity, in Alexandre Kojève and Jean Paul Sartre. It examines the Russian thinker's interpretation of chapter iv of the Phenomenology of Spirit and the importance of the "master-slave dialectic" as a key to Hegelian thought. It also addresses the manner in which the ontological premises set forth in Being and Nothingness are presented as constitutive elements of the understanding of intersubjectivity as a dialectics of subjectivization-objectivization. This paper aims to articulate the way in which Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Jan Patočka revisit the figure of Socrates as a way of overcoming what they view as the “crisis of philosophy”, discussing both their points of convergence and divergence. To this end, the paper unfolds in three sections. The first section will address the general sense of historical crisis in which the said crisis of philosophy arises. The second section turns around Merleau-Ponty’s proposal of a return to Socrates as (...) a way out of this crisis, a solution based on the understanding that philosophy is actually fulfilled in a living relationship with men, and far from its reduction into a comprehensive system of thought. The third section will revolve around the Patočkian characterization of Socrates as a model of “spiritual man” and such characterization will be worked out through the existential dialectic that constitutes the “movement of life”. El objetivo de este trabajo es abordar la problemática del marxismo desde el pensamiento de Jean Paul Sartre y el de Maurice Merleau-Ponty a partir de su dimensión teórica y de su dimensión práctica. Con esta finalidad el presente estudio se encuentra estructurado en cuatro apartados. En el primero de ellos, se aborda la relación intrínseca entre filosofía e historia para ambos autores. El segundo apartado tiene como eje la discusión en torno al comunismo real y la forma en que (...) Sartre y Merleau-Ponty tomarán posición con respecto a las políticas de la URSS y del PCF. En el tercer apartado, se expone la forma en que, en la Crítica de la razón dialéctica, Sartre concibe al marxismo como la filosofía insuperable de su tiempo. El cuarto y último apartándose centra en la comprensión del marxismo como momento de la a-filosofía que lleva a cabo Merleau-Ponty en una de sus últimas notas de curso, lo que significa, entre otras cosas, una oposición explícita a la afirmación que Sartre realiza en la Crítica. El presente estudio apunta a abordar la relación entre ágape y justicia en la problematización del reconocimiento llevada a cabo por Paul Ricoeur. Partiendo de que se trata de lógicas no sólo diferentes, sino que hasta podría decirse que contrapuestas, nuestra intención es indagar la posibilidad de una dialéctica que articule a ambas. En este sentido, resulta importante destacar que dicha dialéctica es una dialéctica del orden de la acción y no una dialéctica de carácter teórico especulativa.

Senior high school is known to be part of the newly implemented K-12 program in the Philippines' educational system. Hence, this program added two years to the academic learning program of students, which mainly focuses on different theoretical and vocational strands that aim to prepare and fully furnish the students for education and employment in the future. Due to adjustments to new online learning amidst the pandemic, students begin to experience various challenges, primarily social support and mental well-being. Hence, this (...) study investigates the relationship between social support and anxiety with 160 respondents from private schools. The present study focused on the dynamics and factors underpinning domestic abuse survivors’ decisions to end the abusive relationship. The experiences and opinions of 12 female DA survivors and 18 support workers were examined through in-depth, one-to-one, semi-structured interviews. Hybrid thematic analysis was conducted to retrieve semantic themes and explore relationships among the themes identified and the differences in survivors’ and professionals’ narratives of the separation process. The findings highlighted that separation decisions derived from the joint action of two sets (...) of factors, the “promoters” and the “accelerators.” Whilst the “promoters” are factors leading to the separation from the abuser over time, the “accelerators” bear a stronger and more direct connection with survivors’ decision to end the abusive relationship. Despite their differences, both these factors acted as propelling forces, leading survivors to actively pursue the separation from the perpetrator. To portray the dynamic links among these factors, we propose a conceptualisation drawn from Newton’s laws of motion. Our findings also highlighted important differences in the views of survivors and support workers, as the former conceived themselves as proactive in ending the abuse, whereas the latter described the leaving process as mainly led by authorities and services supporting survivors. This study has potential implications for research, policy and clinical practice, as it suggests that far from being a linear sequence of multiple stages, leaving an abusive relationship results from a complex interplay of factors that facilitate or drastically accelerate the separation process. We argue that future research should aim at improving our current understanding of the subjective and situational factors that can act as “accelerators” or “promoters” for women’s leaving decisions. Moreover, clinicians and policymakers should invest in creating interventions that aid victims to recognise and leverage promoters and accelerators, thus increasing their readiness to end the abuse. The purpose of this work is to approach the way in which, in Being and Nothingness, Sartre thinks of conflict as the original way of encountering the other. Conflict is presented as the fundamental ontological dimension of intersubjective relationships. In this sense, the subjectivation-objectification dialectic does not correspond to a political or historical event, but these events are consequences of the ontological structure of human reality.

The old enclosed precint of Cádiz, known as the Pópulo, was formed by a curtain wall flanked by towers with a gate in the centre of each face. It was dominated by the ruins of the Roman theatre, discovered in 1980, which occupied a third of the total surface area of the enclosure. The gate in the North wall, presently known as the Arch of Pópulo, has a pointed arch with prominent keystone and is of Arab origin. It was probably (...) built in the 12th century for the Governor Abū l-Ḥasan who embraced the Almohad cause. This gate and the walls of the city were restored during the reing of Alfonso X. Within the Pópulo, there was a mosque oriented toward the South-East, the site of which is occupied by the church of Santa Cruz, also known as the Catedral Vieja. It is probable that in the Pópulo, there was a ribāṭ, or fortified barracks for volunteers for the jihād In the centre of the island of Cádiz, there was a famous Roman tower of lighthouse of two storeys which was described by al-Zuhrī in the 12th century. A partir de alguns temas presentes em Origens do Totalitarismo, a tentativa é revelar como a constatação da ruptura do fio da tradição do pensamento ocidental – tradição política e ética – proporcionou a Arendt uma nova (...) forma de reflexão a respeito da própria atividade de refletir e, não obstante, um novo entendimento sobre o papel do juízo reflexionante no âmbito dos assuntos humanos e das experiências mundanas. In this paper, we address the problematic of film narration and its narrator from a re-reading of Émile Benveniste’s theory of enunciation in open discussion with both the theories of film enunciation that have derived from it, and the cognitive theories that, by discarding it, have tried to take its place. This has led us to a differentiation between two dimensions of the problem of enunciation that are usually ignored: that which separates the act of enunciation and the subject who (...) performs it from that of the textual subjects who inscribe that act in the text. An erroneous understanding of the modes of enunciation of story and discourse has derived from their ignorance, which has led to reducing the former to a kind of form that derives from the latter, constituting no more than a form of discourse that would hide its basis. A precise enunciative definition of the lie is derived from their conscience. Certainly, there is always a subject of the act of enunciation whose traces can be recognized in the materiality of the statement. But there is a properly ontological distance that separates them – as material traces – from the enunciator, as a purely formal textual figure that, by being that, may or may not be present in the text. In this way, the Benveniste’s affirmation can be sustained according to which the story, the pure mode of the narrative, so to speak, is characterized by the absence – not the erasure, nor the invisibility – of any enunciator. This article deals with the events that preceded the U.S. House Resolution No. 269 of June 11, 2002, acknowledging the primacy of Antonio Meucci in the invention of the telephone and that were decisive to the passing of the same. Among them are the author’s lecture at the University of NewYork of October 10, 2000, and Resolution No. 1566 of the New York City Council urging the U.S. Congress to recognize the priority of Antonio Meucci in the invention of the (...) telephone, which followed 2 days after. This lecture is reported here as it was newly delivered in Canada during the author’s visit in April 2003. (shrink)

The life and work of Antonio Meucci, an Italian immigrant who claimed to have invented the telephone, are reviewed on the basis of sound evidence retrieved by the author in various archives. Of paramount importance toward establishing the historical truth was an affidavit retrieved among the (never-printed) acta of the suit instituted by the U.S. government to annul the two basic patents of Alexander Graham Bell on the telephone. This affidavit contains the telephone notes of Meucci’s laboratory notebook, complete with (...) drawings, translated into English. Both the notes and the drawings reveal advanced telephone techniques, such as inductive loading, antisidetone circuit, call signaling, line structure, and other contrivances that were to be adopted by the Bell Company many years after the affidavit was notarized, thus demonstrating the originality of Meucci’s inventions. The important trial between the U.S. government and Alexander Graham Bell began in June 1885 and ended in November 1897 with neither a winner nor a loser. The proceedings contain a large and authoritative body of evidence in the case for the priority of Antonio Meucci’s invention of the telephone. They are, however, difficult to retrieve, because they were never printed and distributed and because the typewritten or handwritten papers, which are located at the National Archives and Records Administration in (...) the United States, are to this day unorganized and scattered in various files. The author presents some of the evidence of fundamental importance to illustrate how the history of the invention of the telephone is very faulty on this point and demands, therefore, a congruent revision.
